Funchal

Porto Santo
Madeira's little sister island and one of Europe's best-kept secrets. Porto Santo is a quiet island 75 km northwest of Funchal, famous for its nine-kilometre golden beach — a rarity in this volcanic archipelago.
The island is ideal for a day trip or an overnight stay: turquoise water, volcanic landscapes, wonderful seafood and a delightfully relaxed pace. History enthusiasts can visit the Casa Museu Colombo, where Christopher Columbus once lived.
